BGS welcomes recent Year 13 leavers for assembly on their expedition

On Monday 9 September, Bury Grammar School welcomed recent Year 13 leavers and Dorothy Lester Travel Scholarship winners, Anna Baker and Rachel Shepherd, to our Girls' Senior School Assembly.

They had very recently returned from their expedition to Norway where, amongst other activities, they had undertaken the very demanding Trolltunga hike.

They gave a presentation to the school explaining how they had travelled, where they had visited and the highlights of their trip. As Norway is an expensive country, they had been careful to prepare and keep to a strict budget.

Although they had experienced very wet weather whilst camping, they had remained cheerful throughout. They had learned to adapt and cope when things didn’t quite go according to plan and had returned home with many wonderful memories and a real sense of achievement.

Anna and Rachel encouraged our sixth formers to plan an expedition for summer 2020.

Applications for next year’s award will open later this month.
