Girls' Junior School & Infant School update - 23/03/2018

Dear Parents,

A sense of ‘belonging’ is integral to our wellbeing and is extremely important to us here at BGS. We are incredibly proud of how we foster our relationships in school with our children to ensure they feel valued and part of school life.

Understanding who we are and where we belong gives us a real feeling of worth and security we need throughout our lives. Celebrating our successes and supporting each other along the way builds confidence, healthy minds and life-long friendships. Children learn through experiences and making choices. Sometimes these choices lead to getting things wrong and it is important that they are given the platform to do this, however this should be supported with guidance and comfort to make the right choices next time. Guidance includes support before we venture too far and so steering children in the right direction towards positive experiences is key. Giving the right messages, being a good role model and encouraging children to participate in age appropriate play contributes to a happy confident child. Having things too early such as a mobile phone can put a child into a situation they are not ready to cope with and then this can have negative effects. Education around topics such as esafety is delivered through our PHSE, ICT, SMSC curriculum and additional assemblies. This of course is no substitution for the watchful eye of a caring parent and an experienced teacher to guide our children. The news this week about Facebook only echoes how important it is to be vigilant and aware of changing times and our responsibility to look after ourselves and each other.

As usual we have had an incredibly busy week which I hope you enjoy reading about in our newsletter. To finish off our week 4N delivered an inspiring assembly about trees with a clear message of planting seeds for regrowth. The girls asked who would like to plan cities for the future and I could see that there were some twinkly eyes thinking that might be something they would like to do…

Please could I ask for parents to be mindful of pedestrians, particularly small children whilst using the car park and practice safe and considerate driving.
