On Wednesday 3rd July, 10 keen Senior School pupils participated in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) challenge day hosted at Holy Cross.
Our Year 8 and 9 pupils participated in several events including:
1) Programming a Lego Mindstorms robot to perform specific tasks
2) Using Police facial recognition software to attempt to recreate faces of some "criminals"
3) Building/racing a model car using a motor, rubber bands and gears.
4) Using medical questioning techniques to diagnose a number of aliments
There were over 10 local schools present and a good day was had by all (Adam, Saif, Callum, Oliver, Hassan and Sam – Year 9, and Amelie, Emily, Connie, Sophia – Year 8).
We are pleased to announce that BGS won two out of four categories.
Adam and Saif won the building/racing a model car with the fastest time of the day, and Callum and Oliver won the police facial recognition event making a very good image of one of the accompanying teachers/criminal!
The STEM activities/competition was fun and informative, and a great time was had by all.
Thank you to the hosts/the organisers and Dr Wong for taking the pupils along.
