Burgundy Assembly

On Friday, Burgundy took centre stage in our weekly Assembly, showing their audience what they have been learning about this term. Dressed as previous Prime Ministers, soldiers and evacuated families, the pupils told a story about how the war impacted Bury.

Science of Sound

How does sound travel? How are musical instruments made? Year 4 found out the answers to these questions and more this week through the spectacular Science of Sound workshop. Through many hands-on experiments, Year 4 deepened their understanding of sound and - even better - applied their knowledge when making their own musical instruments. Using a mix of their scientific, musical, design and technology skills, Year 4 became musical instrument experts making a range of xylophones, flutes, pan pipes, wind chimes, trombones and more.

Multiplication Masterclass!

In Jade we have been working hard to become time tables masters since January by completeing 118 multiplication grids every week. This week was the first time that the whole class scored 100%, everyone completing the entire grid (correctly) in under 7 minutes and scoring 118. While some of us have worked up from scores of 50-60 back in September to achieve 118, some of us have vastly improved out times, down from 6-7 minutes to between 1-2. Speedily recall of these key facts are vital and the boys have worked really hard to achieve this milestone. We are really proud of all of them for their commitment, desire to improve and support of each other. Well done Jade!

On Friday the U9 football team took on their counter parts from Westholme, who arrived with a familiar face in the form of ex-BGS PE teacher Mr Purdy. The boys gave Mr Purdy a warm welcome but then showed him what he was missing as the teams racked up victories by scorelines of 8-6 and 9-0!

Francis and Max both led the way in the first game, scoring some stunning long range strikes, whilst Thomas and Saifuddin produced a very special second half performance as Mr Turner's team turned a 1-0 half time lead into a 9-0 victory by full time.

On Tuesday, despite the snow, the Year 5 and 6 boys and girls travelled to Robin Park in Wigan for the AJIS Indoor Athletic Championships. Charlie produced a brilliant Chest Push performance to take Gold whilst there were also strong performances from Will and Sammy in the Individual Year 5 sprints. This bodes well for the summer version of this competition, which will take place at the end of June.

Well done to Sammy who swam in the Lancashire County Championships over the weekend. Swimming a year up in the 10/11 age category, he placed first in the 100 metre freestyle, first in the 50 metre backstroke and second in the 50 metre butterfly. This makes Sammy the double Lancashire champion and ranks him first in the UK across each of the three events in his age group.
