Stars of the Week

Well done to this week's Stars of the Week!

Year 3

Year 3 have been investigating the conditions needed for plants to thrive.

In small groups, they planned how to set up a fair experiment, collected the equipment and placed the plants in trays ready. Plant A will be watered and placed in the sun. Plant B will be watered but have no sun. Plant C will be in the sun but not watered and Plant D will be deprived of both sun and water. The girls excitedly set up their 4 plants and predicted what might happen to each. Watch this space!

Year 4

This week the girls have really enjoyed their work on Food Chains.

Their first challenge was to learn the vocabulary such as: ‘producer’, ‘consumer’, ‘predator’, ‘herbivore’ and the trickiest of all, ‘detritivores’.

The girls worked hard and eventually gained enough understanding to complete the ‘Food Challenge’. They organised themselves into table teams and carefully studied the food chain challenge cards and with a lot of thought, created some fabulous food chains. Well done, girls!

Year 5

Year 5 girls have been developing their green fingers this week down on the allotment.

They have busied themselves with digging and weeding, but most exciting of all – sowing seeds and planting seedlings. Pots of various shapes and sizes have been filled with compost, and vegetable seeds added. The girls checked the packets to ensure the pots have been left in the best possible conditions for them to thrive. We are looking forward to harvesting an array of lettuces, radishes and melons – fingers crossed that the slugs and snails don’t hear about them!

Year 6

Year 6 were very excited when Siemens came into school to demonstrate their state of the art, virtual-reality technology.

Everyone had the chance to try out the headset and hand pieces and the reaction every time was, “Wow!”

The girls were given their scripts and roles for Wind in the Willows which was lovely, as they all congratulated each other. Rehearsals can now begin in earnest! On Tuesday, our Low Bank residential trip departed with lots of very excited girls. Find out about their adventures in next week’s Newsletter.
