Stars of the Week

Congratulations to this week's Stars of the Week!

In Reception this week the children have had a vision screening test.

The children have had each eye tested individually. To prepare them for this, we set up a ‘Captain Challenge’ activity using upper case letters on a poster and glasses. One pair of glasses had the left lens blocked out and another pair, the right. The children worked with a friend to practise testing each other’s eyes and becoming familiar with reading using only one eye. All of the children know the letter sounds (phonemes) so this activity gave us a chance to revise and practise the letter names. We sing a song in our ‘Letters and Sounds’ sessions that helps us, to the tune of ‘Bobby Shafto’.

ABCDEFG, all the letters came to tea,
HIJKLMN, the food was quite delicious.
OPQRSTU, V and W came too,
X and Y ate all the pie and Z washed up the dishes. Poor Z!

Year 1

The bulbs we planted in autumn have bloomed!

The children were amazed when they compared the dull, non-descript bulb they planted with the pretty miniature daffodils they were taking home.

We have also noticed many other changes that are occurring as the weather becomes a little warmer and the length of daylight increases. The children looked keenly for leaf and blossom buds on the trees, as well as the daffodils and crocus which are flowering around school. Hopefully, a long-standing love of nature is blooming within the inquisitive minds of our young pupils.

Year 2

Year 2 have enjoyed a fabulous trip to “Imagine That!” this week.

The children explored various zones such as the science area, imagination village and the construction zone. All of the children took part in three workshops where we made slime, fridge magnets and bath bombs. They also got the opportunity to watch a science show where volcanoes erupted, giant bubbles were made and a rocket was launched. The children spent the rest of the day investigating a variety of hands-on exhibits. They had great fun and were a real credit to the school!
