All members of staff at Bury Grammar School liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and with the School Health Team in order to ensure that BGS is a secure environment which promotes the health, welfare and safety of every pupil.
We are fortunate to have on-site a highly dedicated and skilled School Health Team which consists of four Health Support Workers, Mrs Robinson and Miss Hughes (Girls' school) and Mrs Anderson and Mrs Howarth (Boys' school). Together, they work with pupils, parents and staff to ensure that the medical and health needs are met, and also are integral to the schools' commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing. At BGS, we also offer the services of a qualified counsellor, Mrs Dewhurst, who is on-site on a weekly basis to provide confidential support and advice to those students who need it.
Our programme of PSHE is also vital here in allowing us to fulfil our aims of supporting parents in raising well-rounded, ambitious and happy children with bright futures; encouraging a love of learning and zest for life, and providing a positive, outward-looking and tolerant school community. Mrs S Howard, the Head of PSHE and E-Safety Officer, works alongside Heads of Year, the School Health Team and other members of staff in order to ensure that a comprehensive and useful programme of study is delivered. Amongst other things, our pupils receive dedicated lessons on E-Safety, positive relationships, mental and physical wellbeing, study skills and citizenship.
