On Tuesday 20th November, Bury Grammar School welcomed Old Boy and Lieutenant Andy Rodgers to speak to students at our sixth Roger Kay Lecture since September.
This was a really inspiring talk for Physics students and those interested in becoming members of the Royal Navy in particular, however it was also very interesting for others due to the significance of Mr Roger’s employment.
As Reactor Officer sailing with HMS TRENCHANT on ICEX 18, Mr Rogers and his team carried out crucial research not only for the environment but it was also a vital mission for allowing the UK to assert its dominance against the threat of nuclear powers.
This was a really unique insight into the life of a Submarine Marine Engineering officer, serving a key role in defending our UK waters yet whose employment is rarely known about.
