Senior School girls in Years 9-11 gathered this week to take part in a knockout style vote for the Second Bury Grammar Book Award.
It was a hard-fought battle but out of a shortlist of nine outstanding books, Patrick Ness’s devastatingly honest Release was finally crowned our winner.
Aimed at older teens, Release tells the story of one day in the life of seventeen year old Adam Thorn. Book Club really enjoyed Ness’s writing style and particularly praised his approach to some tricky subjects. A clear front-runner throughout the voting, it has proved to be a very popular winner.
Miss Elliott and Miss Ryder would like to thank all the girls for their commitment, maturity and eloquence in the way they have approached this year’s shortlist.
We cannot wait to discover which books you will be nominating for next year’s award!
