EYFS update - 15/06/2018

Reception have been continuing there underwater theme and have been exploring sea shells, their patterns, similarities and differences. This has opened many wonderful questions that they are enjoying researching in a variety of ways.

Poetry and seaside tales have been a literacy focus this week, which has seen some lovely exploration of vocabulary related to the beach. The children have been story mapping and building to their seaside stories, which once written, they will read to the Pre-School children!

The children in Reception have been measuring in different ways this week, so if you can, find different ways to measure at home. This could be the height of different items, ordering and recording them as they change/grow, or the difference in containers and their capacity.

They have also been thinking about those who are special to them at home, what makes their families, and in particular, males in their family special to them.  The children have also learnt a little more about how some Muslims choose to celebrate Eid and how this is similar or different to celebrations in their own families.

What a week the children in Pre-School have had! They have been avidly tending to our plants in our outdoor areas around the school, as well as setting up shop and selling ice creams and fruit salads. The children have been working well with money this week, exploring coins, and in particular counting out the right number of pennies for the label. Some of the children have been writing labels for their items, and giving change.

If you can, allow your children to pay for an item when they next go to the shop or count how much is in their piggy banks.  This is a great way to expose the children to money, the coin denominations and how to count with them.

The children have also been deep in discussion and activity, about how we celebrate and thank any men we have in our friend and families, and how some of our friends celebrate Eid. This has opened up some wonderful thoughts and discussions about who is special in our families and what makes our families special/unique. If you are celebrating Fathers Day or Eid this weekend, I hope you have a lovely time. Eid Mubarak!

Please note that as per the letter, our sports day is with the Infants,  next Friday the 22nd June.

Kind regards,
