Last term BGS signed up to the Eco Schools Programme, a global programme (the largest educational programme in the world) designed to empower and engage children in ecology projects that make a difference to their environment.
Our young people care deeply about environmental issues and wish to make a positive change in the environment around them. The Eco-Schools programme provides an ideal way for fostering environmental awareness across all age groups at BGS and links to many curriculum subjects.
Last term we set up our Eco Schools Committee consisting of representatives from all areas of the BGS community including, most importantly, pupil representatives from each Key Stage. All pupils will have the opportunity to get involved with this project at some point and help the School achieve the ultimate Green Flag Award.
This week saw the first round of Eco Committee meetings where the staff and pupils representatives looked at completing an Environmental Review of BGS. This review will form the foundation of all the Eco Schools work we do subsequently and the results will be communicated once complete.
We will report on the progress of this project again in a Newsletter next half term, so please watch out for the next instalment!
