Excellent university success at BGS

Excellent university success at BGS

It has been a fantastic year for our sixth formers with the vast majority of students embarking upon their first choice course at some of the most prestigious universities in the country.

University destinations are crucially important to our students and are the culmination of years of hard work and commitment to their studies. The winning combination of their hard work, careful guidance from the Sixth Form Team and the personal approach we take to UCAS applications, gives our sixth form students the best possible opportunities in the competitive arena of Higher Education and beyond.

Durham University is one of the top educational institutions in the UK and we are proud that four of our BGS students have secured places at this prestigious university. George Batchelor will read Theology, Freddie Bearn will read Modern Languages and Sam Sweeney, our School Captain, will read Philosophy, Politics and Economics whilst Livia Hutchings, Head Girl, will read Geography.

The beautiful City of York boasts a leading Russell Group University and is the destination of top students Tom FitzGerald and Megan Parry. They have been successful in their applications to the competitive areas of History and Mathematics respectively.

Rebecca Yates has secured a place at the historic University of St Andrews to read History whilst Aamir Ibrar will read Mathematics at Warwick University. Both students achieved exceptional A Level grades.

Several students are pursuing degrees in the medical sector: Usman Yakubu has been offered a place to study Medicine at The University of Bristol and School Vice-captain Ben Crofts is on track and looking forward to studying Veterinary Science at The University of Liverpool. Olivia Ashworth will go to study Neuroscience at The University of Leicester whilst Iona Smith will head to The University of Nottingham to read Psychology. Tom Hewson will also read Psychology at The University of Birmingham.

Law is once again a popular choice and we are delighted to announce that several of our students will be heading to university to read Law. Vice-Captain and second female Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of our CCF, Isobel Sarbutts will be heading to Lancaster University. Christian Fuchs is also thrilled to be attending Lancaster University and Morgan Woods is going to Royal Holloway, University of London for Law.

Extracurricular and Sports feature strongly at BGS and BGS Boys have had one of their most successful years ever in football. Alex Worrall and Richard Catterall both achieved a double distinction in Level 3 Sport. Alex will study Sports Coaching at Leeds Beckett University and Richard is going to study Sport and Exercise Science at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Business, Economics and Politics

Degrees in Business and Politics are competitive and extremely relevant to careers in a variety of sectors. Oliver Shewan will be going to The University of Leeds to study International Business whilst Amber Lowe will read Economics at The University of Bristol. Inspired by her meeting with Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England earlier this year, Georgia Mort has secured a place to attend The University of Sheffield to read Economics and Politics.

Fashion and the Arts

Olivia Lambert and Emily Windows both have a keen interest in the fashion industry. Olivia will study Fashion Buying and Merchandising at The University of Manchester and Emily will study Fashion Marketing at The University of Leeds. The creative theme continues with Lily Butterworth who will be going to the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) to study Acting and Performance. Matilda Greensmith is also looking forward to immersing herself in Art & Design at the prestigious Leeds College of Art.

The wide and varied choice of degrees taken by our students is a testament to our rich curriculum and this is highlighted succinctly in the cases of Nikita Shroff who is going to The University of Leeds to study Classics, and Saleem Raza who also achieved very impressive grades and will be going to Imperial College London to study Nuclear Engineering.

All of our students have achieved wonderful places at top Universities and more success stories can be seen on social media.

Congratulations to all our sixth formers and Good Luck to all of you. Do keep in touch by joining our BGS Alumni and let us know how you are getting on. For more information email alumni@burygrammar.com.
