Girls' Sports Report - 26/04/2019

Congratulations to Lauren B-H (Year 10) who competed in the British Swimming Championships in Glasgow last week and finished 2nd in the 200m backstroke event in the Junior Final.

The British Swimming Championships, held at the Tollcross International Pool this year, is often used as qualification trials for the season’s major championships, and attracts the best swimmers from England, Wales and Scotland.

Lauren qualified in three events: 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke.

In the 200m backstroke, she knocked off 1.44 seconds to her time to put herself into a Junior Final.

Then, in the final, she knocked off a further 1.87 seconds from her heat time to finish 2nd in the final.

She finished 7th overall in the 17/under category. Her time for the 200m backstroke now puts her 2nd in Britain for 15 year olds for the last 12 months and 1st in England for 15 year olds for the last 12 months.

In the 50m backstroke, she added on 0.36 seconds to her time and finished 19th in the 17/under category.

In the 100m backstroke, she added 0.19 seconds to her time and came 21st in the 17/under category.

Lauren said: "I am very pleased with my achievements in swimming so far. I train with City of Salford Swim Club, under the guidance of swim coaches John Stout and Adam Naylor. I am delighted with my progress and current achievements, as I only joined City of Salford 21 months ago. Before I joined Salford I wasn't even in the Top 10 in Lancashire and now, only 21 months later, I am currently 2nd in Great Britain and 1st in England for my age group for 200m Backstroke event. From working hard, and putting in the effort at training, it shows what you can achieve with hard work and dedication. BGS has supported me by offering me flexibility with completion of homework, and supporting my attendance at Training Camps."

Well done Lauren! We look forward to hearing of your future success.
