Girls' Sports Report - Week Ending 17/11/2017

Sport: Netball

U14 National Schools Netball Tournament

Fourteen schools from around Greater Manchester competed in the U14 National Schools Netball Tournament at Bury Grammar School.

The BGS girls did extremely well. They won all 6 games in their section and
went through as winners of the section into the semi-final.

They played Saddleworth in an exciting and close-fought game. At one stage, BGS were three goals ahead.

Unfortunately Saddleworth pulled it back to claim a draw. We then entered into a nailbiting two minutes each way of extra-time.

Sadly, Saddleworth were just able to get the better of us.

The whole team played with exceptional spirit and were desperately unlucky not to qualify for the final and a place in the next round of the competition.

Sport: Cross Country

Bury Grammar School Girls competed in the X-Country Championships this week and had the following success:

1st - Helledd Rimmer (Year 10/11)

2nd - Reilly Carson (Year 7)

8th - Rebecca Jones - (Year 8/9)

The top ten runners in each age group are selected to run for Bury in the Greater Manchester Competition.

Year 8 girl Megan Greaves has recently been selected for the RYA North Zone Winter Sailing Squad.

She is one of six girls picked from the North of England.

This is the first step on the RYA GB sailing pathway and will involve attending training as part of the Northern squad with team GB coaches.
This will also involve attending national race events around the country.

Congratulations to Megan!
