Junior Girls & Infants - Spring Term Sports Report

Junior Girls & Infants - Spring Term Sports Report

It has been an incredibly busy Spring term regarding sporting achievements across the Infant and Junior Schools.

January started with the AJIS indoor athletics competition at Robin Park, Wigan.

Most of the 16 Under 11 girls competed at this event but due to the inclement weather, our competition had to be cut short.

The following week saw the Under 11 girls compete in the AJIS football tournament, hosted at St Bede’s College, Manchester. It was a bitterly cold day however our girls played with great enthusiasm, finishing 7th overall.

On Thursday 14th February, Bury Grammar School hosted its first Year 2 Football Festival and invited 10 Schools’ to participate on our 3G pitch.

There were over 90 Year 2 children from across Bury and other independent schools playing in the tournament. Our A team and B teams showed their skills and played with passion and pride.

March has been a very busy month!

The Under 11 girls competed at the annual AJIS Netball tournament at Stockport Grammar and finished 3rd in their division. The Under 10 girls AJIS Netball tournament was hosted by Kings School, Macclesfield and the girls played incredibly well by finishing 2nd in their group. They went onto winning their new section finishing in 5th place.

The U11 team played a number of local netball matches in the Bury Junior School league. The girls played incredibly well to secure their place in the finals against Hazelhurst Primary School. BGS were triumphant, winning 23-2 and brought the trophy home, again!

The girls football team played a number of matches in the Bury league and have learnt a great deal from their experiences.

The Year 5 swimming squad participated and won the Bury Junior Schools Swimming, they went on to represent Bury at the Greater Manchester Games where they finished 5th overall.

Many thanks to the parents who have supported the teams and well done to all the children who have represented the School in any sporting activity this year. A fabulous term of sport! After the Easter break, we move onto our Summer sports programme of Athletics, Rounders and Tennis.
