Bury Grammar School pupils showcased their musical talent once again in the Joint Concert with Bury Music Service on Tuesday evening.
Featuring boys from Years 7 to 12, BGSBeatz kicked off the evening with a dramatic performance of 'Fire' from Summon the Spirits, conjuring up a picture of primitive tribal rituals including shouts and ghostly sound effects from the audience. Jonathan Saab on lead vocal led an original rendition of Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' arranged by Jonathan Price and introduced the audience to some unusual percussion instruments including boom wackers!
Pupils from the Infant School, Junior Girls' and Junior Boys' choirs sang their hearts out filling the Roger Kay Hall and delighting the audience. The BGS Infant Choir beautifully sang 'Rainbow Tea' and 'Make friends around the World'. They were followed by the BGS Boys' Junior Chamber Choir who raised the roof with renditions of 'One World' and 'When I'm Sixty Four'. The final BGS performance of the night saw the BGS Girls' Junior School Choir perform 'Sailing' and 'Surf, Surfin' on the Internet'.
The evening concluded in a rousing fashion with the Bury Youth Big Band playing 'Greensleeves', 'The Whiffenpoof song', 'The Peanut Vendor' and 'Lester Leaps In'.
We would like to thank the staff and students from Bury Music Service for joining us for our annual concert and the staff of BGS' Music Departments, Miss Britton, Miss Downing, Mrs Dickson, Mrs Norman, Mrs Gray and Mr Price for their efforts in rehearsing the ensembles and organising the event.
Congratulations to all of the pupils involved, you were superb!
