On Wednesday 8 November, the members of the Boys’ School Robot Team made the short walk to visit the new GMFRS Training and Safety Centre.
Each year the Robot Team enters the First Lego League Robotics Competition.
As a part of this year’s competition, the team are required to research the human water cycle, find an area in which water is used that they feel could be dealt with more efficiently and then design a solution to improve the use of water in this area.
At the centre, the boys met with one of the fire officers as well as with a brigade environment manager.
They learnt about the considerations that the fire brigade have to make when choosing what water they will use to put out a fire.
They also learnt about how they try to recycle water during an operation, why this is not always safe to do so and about how it is disposed of safely when they have finished.
The boys will now use this information for the next phase of the project, which is to develop a solution to one of these problems.
