By Matthew Hamilton, Year 7
On Thursday 22 March 2018, a group of 30 boys from the BGSB Senior School left on a coach at 6.30am to London.
While we were there, we visited the Harry Potter Studios, watched the Woman in Black and walked in horror in the London Dungeons.
Harry Potter World
First of all, in Harry Potter World, we saw such attractions as Platform nine and three quarters, the Forbidden Forest, Diagon Alley and Hagrid’s Hut workshop. We had great fun and collected badges from all of the zones.
The Woman in Black
After going to Pizza Express for tea, we went to the Theatre to watch the thriller, Woman in Black. It truly was a thriller with many freaky moments. It is a story about a man who has terrible experiences with a ghost. Being the solicitor of a woman who died with no friends, in a haunted house, he is forced to do much work in that house, and must do it through the deafening screams and a woman in black.
The London Dungeons
The London Dungeons was one of the best parts of the trip, taking us prisoners and throwing us through time and informing us of diseases, murderers and torture methods. Some of these included Jack the Ripper, The Great Plague and The Great Fire of London.
The Globe Theatre
On Friday 23rd March we were lucky enough to attend a workshop at the Globe Theatre. We were greeted by an actor who discussed the history of the Globe and regaled us with fascinating facts. The students heard about how the popular Elizabethan sport of bear-baiting is referred to in Macbeth: 'They have tied me to a stake, I cannot fly/But, bear-like, I must fight the course.' The highlight of the visit was the drama exercises where the boys were able to act out lines from A Midsummer Night's Dream and showcase their acting talents. The whole experience really brought Shakespeare to life for the students and even the teachers learned some new facts.
Altogether, it was great and we hope to go again.
