The cast and crew of this year’s musical theatre spectacular, ‘Grease’ delighted their audience with slick and flawless portrayals of this smash hit this week.
Mrs Hammond (Head of Drama) and Miss Charlesworth (Assistant Director) have masterfully directed a highly talented and energetic cast of students from Years 8 – 13 to realise the full comic potential of the show.
The cast have been expertly put through their paces by musical directors, Miss Britton and Miss Downing, They were ably supported by a fantastic band and an amazing crew of stagehands, lighting and sound technicians, costume and hair/make-up assistants.
Choreographer, Mrs S McDonald has yet again produced spectacular whole cast dances with a special mention going to Lucy Cheong as Cha Cha Digregorio. The famous Greased lightnin was a remarkably energetic number with impressive stage effects. Summer nights, You’re the one that I want, Hand Jive and We go together were all whole cast numbers which had the audience on the edge of their seats.
Lead roles Sandy Dumbrowski, (Emily) Rizzo (Amelia) Danny Zuko, (Jay and Jack) and Kenickie (Rhys) were brilliantly and intuitively performed. These talented actors delighted the audience with their powerful voices and beautiful harmonies; they definitely set the professional standard of this whole piece. Iconic numbers including Hopelessly devoted, Sandy, There are worse things I could do. All were fantastically captured with emotive and moving performances.
The ‘Pink Ladies’ effortlessly demonstrated their distinctive characters with confident and entertaining performances from Molly, Olivia and Jasmine as Marty, Frenchy and Jan. Freddy, my love and Raining on prom night were beautifully executed.
The T Birds, Danny’s cronies, Doody, Sonny and Roger are stereotypically and hilariously portrayed by Jay Broadhurst, Jack Hyde, Kofi Teshola and Jonathan Saab. Particular mention should be made of the moving renditions of Those Magic Changes, Mooning, Beauty School Dropout.
Great supporting roles were given by Will as Vince Fontaine, Hannah, Emma and Charlotte as Miss Lynch, Madeleine and Kaya as Patty Simcox and Jack as Eugene Florczyk. All demonstrated great character acting skills.
Congratulations and a huge thank you to BGS pupils, students, staff and their amazing support team on yet another fabulous ensemble production. The School has certainly begun the festive season on a high note.
