Grow Your Mindset

As part of Children's Mental Health Week, we welcomed Gemma and Liz from Grow Your Mindset to talk to our Infant and Junior children about the importance and benefits of having a growth mindset. In fun and interactive sessions, the children enjoyed learning all about how having a fixed mindset can prevent us from achieving our best and how having a growth mindset opens our minds to opportunities, experiences and enables us to learn much more. Gemma and Liz explained to the pupils how the brain works in developing a growth mindset, gave them some great ideas for positive thinking and even showed the children how to work out the size of their brain!

In Reception this term we are thinking about looking after ourselves and keeping healthy. We have been discussing the importance of having a balanced diet and eating at least 5 fruits and vegetables each day. Many of the children knew that regular exercise was necessary for a healthy body. We have talked about making sure that we have enough rest and good quality sleep every night, in order to have a healthy brain. It was decided that lack of sleep was to blame for poor concentration, feeling grumpy and being weepy. We also thought about keeping our hearts healthy (emotional wellbeing). Feeling happy, included and loved by your family and friends is crucial to having a healthy heart. We told some jokes to make each other laugh. Here is the favourite:

Q - Why did the banana go to the doctor?

A – Because it wasn’t peeling well!

Year 1

Year 1 have continued their work on ‘Space’ this week. We said ‘goodbye’ to our visiting aliens from earlier in the term and moved onto expanding our knowledge of the solar system. As a year group, we came together to learn about the planets that are in our solar system. We learnt about some of their properties and their orbits around the sun. We discovered that the orbit time of some planets is longer than we have been alive!

We have tried very hard to continue to use scientific vocabulary when working together. Please ask your child about the mnemonic for remembering the order of the planets.

Year 2

Year 2 have continued their work on twisted tales this week. We have been writing our own, based on original fairy tales. The children have considered characters, settings and events. 2G have performed some of their own twisted tales in assembly alongside the ‘odd’ version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have had lots of fun and have really used their imaginations.
