What's been happening in the Infant School - 19/04/2019

In Reception we have been thinking about our wonderful Mums.

To begin our work, we have been reading books written and illustrated by the unique and inspirational Anthony Browne. We enjoyed reading ‘My Mum’; Browne’s humour and illustrations initiated a fabulous discussion about some of the qualities that the children appreciated the most in their own mothers.

We enjoyed immensely, ‘Piggybook.’ This story sees Mrs Piggot being taken for granted by her family with an unusual plot twist, never to be forgotten and reminding families of the importance of working together. Once read, this story has to be immediately re-read in order to fully appreciate the clever illustrations and subtle piggy-style changes.

Reception have made cheerful, bright sunshine cards to say ‘thank you’ to their Mums. We learnt the song, ‘You are my Sunshine.’ We wrote ‘You are my sunshine!’ on the front of our cards.

Year 1

Just before the Easter holidays, Year 1 children baked bread as part of their work on The Great Fire of London.

The children exclaimed it was ‘the best bread ever!’ We hope they shared it with their special grown-ups at home. This week, Year One have entertained some very royal visitors as part of their ‘London’ topic.

The children baked cakes for and interviewed people who had met a member of the Royal Family or visited Buckingham Palace. They learnt lots of new things as well as enhancing their research skills by compiling some excellent and probing questions. We hope our guests enjoyed it as much as the children.

Year 2

To kick start our new topic ‘Wriggle and Crawl’, Year 2 have been visited by the Bug Man this week.

The children took part in two workshops where they learnt about different kinds of minibeasts and the various micro-habitats they lived in.

Some very brave children got to hold a variety of creatures including a Giant African Snail, a millipede and even a tarantula!

We all learnt lots about the different minibeasts and in the forthcoming weeks we are going to be using our research skills to find out even more!
