What's been happening in the Infant School - 19/10/2018

In Reception Maths lessons this week, we have been exploring and learning about patterns. Creating, naming and talking about patterns helps us become strong mathematicians. Patterns help us to make predictions, identify relationships and provide a sense of order. We have particularly enjoyed spotting repeating patterns. Patterns are everywhere! We found patterns on our clothes, walls, animals, leaves and even in storybooks: “A gruffalo? What’s a gruffalo?” “A gruffalo! Why, didn’t you know?”

We have had fun making repeating pattern necklaces with penne pasta and Cheerios. We even made patterns with movements outside and in music with claves.

Year 1

Year 1 were nature detectives this week spotting the signs of Autumn during a walk around the school grounds. A range of different tree-types were spotted and we found their seeds scattered around. The leaves were a mixture of shades of greens, yellows, oranges, reds and browns.

Year 2

Following on from last week, Year 2 has been making their very own stone soup. They have chopped the vegetables, cooked them and really enjoyed sharing and eating the soup. The children have learnt about the story through lots of different media including art, English and cooking.
