Stars of the Week
Well done to this week's Stars of the Week!
As Reception have been introduced to the two-digit number 10, they are aware that they have no new numerals to learn. The digits are recycled and represented in different ways. We enter the world of our tens based number system. Reception have been thinking about teen numbers. To help us understand that within every teen number is one ten, we have used our toes as the constant grouping of ten and our fingers for the second teen digit. We have also been using, ten frames, numicon and other counting equipment. These were quicker to use but not as much fun and didn’t make us laugh quite so much.
Strange things have been happening in the Infant School: UFO sightings, letters from aliens and green goo. On the rooftop playground, the children found parts of a UFO, alien footprints and two eggs covered in green slime. The children discussed why the eggs were covered in the slime and had some fantastic ideas: to feed the baby aliens, to keep the eggs warm/cool, to protect the eggs so they did not break. The children are caring for the eggs until they can be returned to the aliens.
In Year 2 the children have been taking part in their own ‘Messy Morning’. The children have been investigating the properties of various different mixtures and materials. They experimented with gloop, cloud dough, jelly, sand foam, bubble foam and various other mixtures. The children used a wide range of vocabulary to describe and explain textures and properties of the different mixtures. They had lots of fun and became quite mucky!
