Year 13 boy wins prestigious cricket awards

Year 13 student Matthew Donnelly recently won the prestigious Greater Manchester Cricket League Senior Batting, Fielding and most valuable player awards for the whole of the Greater Manchester Cricket League.

Matthew scored over 1200 runs for his club Greenmount CC and also had the best wicket keeping statistics.

He was invited to the Greater Manchester Cricket League Dinner and Award ceremony at Lancashire County Cricket Ground at The Point on Friday 20th October, where he received medals and trophies for these three fantastic achievements.

He has also won the batting and most valuable player award in the Sunday Premier Cricket Cup Final where he received a medal from the Greater Manchester Cricket League Chairman.

He was also a key performer in the Greenmount CC under 18 team which won the league, the Sunday league senior team league winners and cup double winners and the first team league winners.

Following these outstanding performances, Matthew was selected to play cricket in the Under 17 County Cricket Festival,  but unfortunately it clashed with important A Level field trips and exams so he put his studies first.

Matthew has been honoured and privileged to captain the Bury Grammar School cricket team since Year 7 and this year received the prestigious cricket award at Prize Giving.

He coaches voluntarily the under 9 and under 11 teams every Friday at Greenmount CC, bringing through the cricket stars of the future!
