Year 7 take part in Heartbeat Bury event

Year 7 take part in Heartbeat Bury event

This week all pupils in Year 7, boys and girls, participated in the annual Heartbeat Bury event.

This event has been running for the past 10 years with the boys but was the first time that the girls have also taken part.

During the day the pupils were off the normal timetable whilst they participated in a range of activities relating to living a healthy lifestyle. This included fitness testing, mindfulness and meditation, an anti-smoking workshop, a healthy eating  workshop focusing on sugar, and a health issues workshop. The whole event ended with a sponsored run with the boys raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust and the girls raising money for Rochdale and District Mind, a mental health charity supporting local people.

The pupils ran for 20-25 minutes and covered distances of between 1500m and 5000m. It was encouraging to see pupils of all abilities participating in the run and there is no doubt that the boys enjoyed themselves, as did the members of staff, who also took part in the run.

The whole event was, once again, a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the staff and pupils who took part.
